Presale now
“Onwards, always onwards. ON&ON&ON. Who knows exactly where the journey will take us.”
Just as Carolin No’s life is constantly on the move, so is her music. And that’s exactly what you can hear on her fourteenth album. For Caro and Andreas Obieglo, ON&ON was a journey – towards new shores, gripping songs and arrangements that break with pop conventions.
Once the band had almost finished the music, the idea of experimenting was born. Many songs were subsequently extended with seamlessly merging preludes and postludes. The introductory title track, for example, grew to almost eight minutes – as if the remix had already been included. The stylistic palette opens up in all directions, ranging from dub and electro-rock to folk.
The audiophile arrangements were developed in long night-time sessions in the so-called “recording box”, a small, soundproofed cabin measuring less than four square meters. Here, tabla samples were combined with a range of analog and soft synths, and field recordings had just as much a place as a tenor horn interlude. The late, focused work in a place that was acoustically sealed off from the outside world like a soft bubble lent the music an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
However, if ON&ON is indeed a dream, then it is a dynamic one with many unexpected twists and turns. “The streets of the past” awaits with passionate guitar
