The four virtuoso members of Huun-Huur-Tu, who accompany themselves on traditional instruments of the Tuvan pastoral culture, have worked with Frank Zappa, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson, Ry Cooder and the Kronos Quartet. Their mystical vocal art reaps enthusiastic responses the world over.
Recorded within the framework of the Jazz Lines Festival 2002 in the Theatre of the Haus der Kunst in Munich, this DVD is Part One of a two-part anthology.
They are profoundly mysterious: the traditional, ritual laryngeal chants of the Central Asian land of Tuva. With their unique song technique, the singers from the steppe develop an enthralling sound cosmos rich in undertones and overtones. Something that is no longer a mystery, however, is the world-wide success of the Tuvan quartet Huun-Huur-Tu, now an established name in international world music, thanks to their modern presentation of traditional laryngeal singing.
This DVD is the first part of a documentary about Huun-Huur-Tu and covers the years until 2004. The Concert was recorded at Jazz Lines Festival 2002; Theater im Haus der Kunst; München
